Continuous Professional Development

Successful, happy and driven teachers don’t stand still

Harrow schools are committed to supporting and developing their teachers so they can continue to make a difference, to inspire and retain their enthusiasm for their profession.

As part of the Harrow Teaching School Alliance we offer Learning Hubs, bespoke school to school support and a vast range of CPD opportunities, including access to accredited courses for Middle and Senior Leaders.

As an ECT you will have the opportunity to visit schools in your locality and learn the best practice from them. This continues into your second year and future years as we develop future leaders to make a significant different to the children of Harrow.

Catherine – Y1 Teacher and Maths Leader

My official journey to becoming a teacher began at St. Mary’s University in Twickenham where I undertook a degree in Education. However, the love for teaching and supporting children first began in a dance class years prior to beginning my course. Towards the end of my undergraduate degree I was certain about becoming a primary school teacher so applied and commenced my PGCE training that year. I completed three placements, two of which were within the Borough of Harrow. Throughout the training process I was completely supported by my University, Link Tutor and a Class Mentor, and I developed great knowledge and understanding of up to date pedagogy. Furthermore, from observing and talking to a wide range of educators, class teachers and headteachers I gained great foundations and guidance for my NQT year.

During the last placement of my PGCE I was fortunate enough to be given a teaching position at St. Teresa’s Catholic Primary School in Harrow. Since accepting this position in 2016 as a NQT, I have been given amazing opportunities and have been greatly supported in my development. I have attended various CPD courses run by Harrow Council and have been involved in events within the area such as ‘The Harrow Dance Showcase’.

Due to the great support I have received over the last two and a half years I have progressed in my career and have recently been appointed Maths Lead for the school, which is a middle management position. The support and encouragement I received at St. Teresa’s gave me the confidence to apply for this role.

St.Teresa’s Catholic Primary School is situated in the London Borough of Harrow, which has great transport links and allows me to travel easily to and from work. I was educated in Harrow and have lived here my whole life so have always been aware of how many great schools there are in the Borough. I knew that I was joining a brilliant school, however St. Teresa’s has exceeded my expectations, mainly due to the school’s strong sense of community.
